Perhaps your organization is thinking about adopting Lean principles.
Macklin Consulting has provided Lean training programs to corporations, midsized businesses, and business excellence community interest groups for over a decade. Our typical program consists of a one-hour Lean presentation followed by a one-hour activity that reinforces the lessons learned in a highly participative manner. We have also expanded and customized our core training program for half-day workshops.
Our Lean presentation can be customized to your precise needs, too. If your organization has already installed a 5S culture, we start our presentation with the eight deadly wastes and how employees can easily identify them, using the Stand in the Circle tool. We define each waste and give everyday examples of how your employees may already be encountering them at home and at work.
Continuing with the definition of Lean, we discuss the Customer Value Chain and the three critical things a process step must have to be considered of value to customers. We closely look at:
process mapping,
how to identify waste,
root cause analysis,
the 5 Why’s,
eliminating wastes,
making a defect-free product using Poka-Yoke, and
how to add value to customers.
The activity that follows is a LEGO-based game that challenges participants to assume roles in the production of two customer-ordered products. Instructions are given to each team. At the end of the first round, all teams discuss the findings on their processes, the wastes they identified, and their plans for process improvement using the key points gained from the Lean Principles presentation.
The results of the second round demonstrate how much the participants have learned. Using a learner-centered approach to instruction, we gain a high level of participation from our participants. The lessons they learn during this activity will foster confidence and empowerment to apply the knowledge at the workplace, or at home.
Please watch the short video at the top of this page to see an example of a training element that we used at a recent Lean workshop to find out more about Macklin Consulting’s engaging approach to Lean training. Keep in mind that we customize our seminar with examples from your organization’s processes and challenges. This allows your employees to embrace and apply this methodology as soon as the training seminar ends.
