Macklin Consulting has also helped out clients improve their manufacturing shop floor productivity via one week Kaizen Events. Our associates facilitate aggressive continuous improvement programs where clients need quick change that brings sustainable results. Once a very narrow focus is established, a group of process experts is gathered to define the problem, assess its current impact and agree on an improvement goal.
This highly participative week creates an urgency for change. In the case of 5S Kaizen Events, team members are challenged to make dramatic changes to their work areas. The concept of Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain is taught. The team tours the work areas and quickly embarks in the process of determining what is critical to their job and keeping only what is used daily, in their immediate reach. A pilot area is chosen to serve as a model for all other similar workstations to follow. Pride among team members swells as the area is redesigned and made more efficient. Employees express satisfaction with the results and vow never to let the shop floor go back to the disorganized way it was at the beginning of the week.
The team devises a list of commitments that will assure these improvements are sustained. The employees hold themselves accountable and create their own inspection checklist that drives the audit process. Management uses the same checklist not to find something wrong but rather to applaud the employees on their abilities in keeping their areas organized for maximum efficiency. Take the free 5Sself assessment survey now and then contact us to share your results. Here are some pictures from past one week 5S Kaizen Events.
